City, New Line Skateparks aiming to stay on schedule despite outside interferenceCity, New Line Skateparks aiming to stay on schedule despite outside interference

first_imgSarah Cockerill is the Director of Community Services, and she says that if the trespassers continue hindering the completion of the work at the site, the opening date may be pushed back.“If kids are in there, and skating on non cured concrete, that will definitely have an impact on the opening,” she explains. The tagging that’s been going on in there has happened a couple of times, and New Line will have to take time to get if off before we open.”She adds that aside from potentially delaying the opening of the skate park, there are also concerns about safety with people using the site before it is ready, and the RCMP could also get involved as well. – Advertisement -“It’s a safety issue, there’s open rebar everywhere, their obviously doing this in the evening, so there’s a lot of safety concerns from our perspective,” Cockerill says. “We’d love to hear about it, and it’s reportable to the RCMP.”The city hopes to have an update on an open date by the end of Thursday.last_img read more

Crystal Palace boss questions Patrick Bamford’s comments: ‘He was given every chance’Crystal Palace boss questions Patrick Bamford’s comments: ‘He was given every chance’

first_img Patrick Bamford 1 Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew insists Patrick Bamford was given “every chance” to make an impact during his loan spell at Selhurst Park.Bamford has returned to Chelsea after failing to hit the target in nine appearances for the Eagles and after Monday’s goalless draw with Swansea he stated his five months in south-east London had been “terrible”.The 22-year-old forward has retracted his comments two days on, apologising and adding: “I couldn’t have been at a nicer club. I’m just disappointed I couldn’t do more for the team.”Pardew has accepted the apology of the England Under-21 international, whose only two starts at Palace were in the Capital One Cup.“Patrick made a slight error after the game. I think he was a little bit emotional. He has addressed that. I appreciate that,” Pardew said.“His comments on Wednesday were much nearer the mark. He has had every chance here.“We have been getting fantastic results, so his chances (to start matches) have been limited. We kept on winning and you have to keep the balance of the side. It is as simple as that.”Bamford fired 19 goals in 44 appearances for Middlesbrough last season and while his time at Palace was far less productive, Pardew insists he has a future in the Premier League.“Patrick has learned from that experience and I would like to think he will be a very good player for Chelsea and England going forward,” Pardew said.“This was a learning curve for him. He knows this is a little bit of a step up from the Championship, but there is nothing to suggest he can’t make that step up. I wish him all the best for the future.“I like him. He’s a prospect. His game time here was disappointing. I get that. Now he needs to find game time in the Premier League. Will he get that at Chelsea?“I hope he becomes a top player because he has some really nice attributes as a person and if he becomes a great player, then great.”Palace stormed Stamford Bridge with a 2-1 victory on August 29 but Pardew believes completing the double over the ailing champions is unlikely with Connor Wickham and Yannick Bolasie injured and Yohan Cabaye suspended.“It’s unrealistic because of the bodies I have available,” said Pardew, who added there is “no chance” Chelsea could be relegated.“Chelsea look like they have gone into a controlled phase of making sure they are stable in the league and will probably attack the cups,” he said.“They looked a bit more assured against Manchester United, so they are favourites for this game. Having said that, we are difficult to play at home at the moment.”last_img read more

Firefighters will get a handle on the fire once the wind drops off.” In addition to the red-flag warning, a health alert is in effect because of smoke and particulate matter generated by the fires. All residents were advised to avoid sports and other strenuous outdoor activity, while those with asthma and other chronic health problems were told to limit their time outside. Elderly residents should also take precautions to protect their health, officials said. “Despite significant efforts toward fire containment, air quality in some parts of the county is being adversely affected by the fires,” said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Los Angeles County’s health officer. “Small air particles carrying through Los Angeles County can have adverse health effects, and will be particularly unhealthful for sensitive individuals. Those individuals should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.” For more information about air-quality issues, call (800) 288-7664 or see www.aqmd.gov.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. A red-flag warning remains in effect through Wednesday – and could be extended through Thursday – with forecasts for high heat, strong winds and single-digit humidity. The winds are expected to be strongest overnight and in the early-morning hours. “We’re not out of the woods,” said David Gomberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “The conditions are coming together for the most fire danger. last_img read more

first_imgFigure skater Sasha Cohen is ready for another shot at a gold medal in the Olympics in February. The 21-year-old two-time world silver medalist was disappointed with her fourth-place finish at the 2002 games. “At the time, I was devastated, crushed that it didn’t turn out how I wanted,” Cohen tells Time magazine for its Jan. 9 issue. “But it was my first major international event, so I learned a lot from it.” Cohen did get to sit next to President George W. Bush at the 2002 opening ceremonies, an honor that took a phone call from the commander in chief to convince her mother. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
